Louise’s passing
This is to report the death of Louise Kandakai of San Antonio TX, and originally from Liberia West Africa. She passed away at home last weekend at age 80. She remained active up to the end, chugging along and ever cheerful. Cause of death was heart related. This is a hastily put together webpage, informal and unpolished, by her coworker Dan Harring.
She wanted to be buried on the family plot in Liberia. No open casket viewing, no cremation. (None of her siblings, parents or grandparents were cremated. That was the family tradition and belief.) We are working on getting the body there . Prayers and good wishes please (that the 18 hour plane ride requiring 3 transfers is successful, and the refrigeration temperature legal requirements are maintained throughout).
Louise was a lifelong Episcopalian and recited daily prayers to the Saints. Her father Rev. Dr. Christopher Kei Kandakai was Liberia’s longest serving Episcopal priest. She joined St David’s parish after getting a job transfer here 30 years ago.
In 1975 she graduated and received Medical Laboratory Technologist certification from St Mary’s College in Minneapolis. She was a long-time member of the American Society for Clinical Pathology. Her most recent job was in the Microbiology section of a food and water testing lab at Fort Sam Houston. When non-routine problem incidents occurred she worked with the Chemistry specialist to detect and identify contamination, breakdown, microbial spoilage, and packaging defects in the food supply chain. Before this she worked in a Maryland Reference Lab doing toxicology, chemistry, zoonotic disease (rabies) testing. She retired after 30+ years in the federal Civil Service. Louise was renowned for her performances at all the going away and retirement parties.
She had a ‘mystical’ side. It was apparent from an early age that she was clairvoyant at times and could not be suppressed or denied. (Some info on that at soulserenity.net) Louise was well known throughout the region and was active in various spiritual based communities around the city.
Eternal rest grant unto her O Lord, and let the perpetual light shine upon her. May her soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen
I ask that friends remember and help Louise’s sisters Cornelia Obeng and Grace Kandakai with their ongoing expenditures for LK’s dream project in Liberia.
I’ll make sure the funeral and transport costs are taken care of (~ 13,000) until the estate is settled. The funeral home can take donations over the phone. The place has been in business since 1980, so it’s unlikely to be a scam.

Prayers and good wishes please, that we can get the refrigerated body to the destination and all the paperwork requirements are met.

Anonymous May 26, 2024 at 4:59 PM I had the privilege of knowing Ms. Kandakai for the past 10 years. She had become an extra aunt. She had become more of a family member to my parents and siblings. She was truly a great soul. She was kind, loving and always encouraging. Thank you for teachings, your time and all of your support throughout the years. Rest in eternal peace until we meet again.
