Packaging problems, polymer additives

Leaks

Swellers

Deterioration, aging

Product-package chemical interaction

Cans – tin-plated steel, aluminum

PETE bottles (water, carbonated beverages)

Polyethylene bottles/jugs

Pouches, laminates, tetrapacks

Glass bottles and jars

Others (paperboard. …)

Polymer additives – necessary for structural integrity and adequate shelf life. I studied all the chemical & functional categories of ingredients added to PE, PETE, PP et al. Little did I suspect that the tiny broken off microparticles could be absorbed intact in the GI tract etc and be even more problematic.
